The Winter Wonderland Ice show is the best show in Orlando for the holidays. Very upbeat and high energy. December 22, 2009 found me exhilarated by the Ice Skating show with Fireworks following. The set is very much reminiscent of Winter in the North East even with the little bridge, the white birch trees, two benches for sitting near the ice skating pond. Sea World at Christmas gets better every year. The main show at the Bay Stadium is a not to be missed show. In 2008, they had the Orlando Symphony. Year 2009 was terrific ice skating with Olympic skaters, high energy music, color lights, fountains dancing to the music in color, and followed up with their smash Fireworks show. The Firework show is timed to music and fountains with color.
A snowman with a golf cap and a broom with matching scarf. The colors, the trees, the lights, the dancing fountains, ice skaters, Olympic level skating, fireworks, and music are all something to really enjoy.
I have taken my photos and put them together in sequence and added other music to give a sense of movement and the ability to see some of the joy of the evening. The 2009 Christmas show was the best thing in Orlando which ended up with four visits. Bundling up was necessary as Orlando had cold nights. Hat, gloves, winter jacket, and a blanket were necessary to stay warm through the wait and the hour long show. Sitting for almost two hours in the cold was well worth the enjoyment of the Broadway performance level show. This is just a small taste. There will be other postings in this series of reports on Sea World Winter Wonderland. So much to do. Awesome fun!
The program
starts out with singers before the skaters come to the ice. The skaters come out to Christmas carols made famous by excellent singers. Winter Wonderland by Johnny Mathias being very appropriate and perfectly timed skaters. The songs are fast paced with different costumed skaters switching off with solos, couples, and foursomes each switching back and forth off and on the ice.
Backward flips!
Triples and skaters flying through the air in the hands of their partner makes for an Olympic level show. Ashley Clark a former Gold Medalist and Richard Swenning a US Figure skater give us a great show. Ankle and hand spins up and over the top of each other and dropping down into a spin with the woman’s head dangerously close to the ice causing me to hold my breath until it was over.
Santa outfits for the whole group singing about sleigh rides and jingle bells and as the season got underway it became very cold and required hats, mittens, and blankets for those of us watching in the stands. There are other videos on YouTube to see the other ones created by many visitors. Seaworld has a marketing video on YouTube
Clyde and Seamore’s Countdown to Christmas is back with great antics from the animals and always good for laughs. The Mime at the beginning of the show is always a hit with the crowd as he spoofs on visitors by over exaggerated their walk or gestures. Taking the woman and walking away from their date or just generally making fun of anything that will make us laugh in good taste. Sesame Street Christmas returns. Shamu Christmas Miracles with Christmas Carol Sing along. I missed this in 2009 because I went to the Wonderland on Ice four times.
Over near the restaurants on the walkways there is snow falls among the decorations. Fun and festivities to see the lights, decorations, characters, and shows, and sometimes sit, watch, and listen.
Polar
Express is a 3D simulation of the story about going to the North Pole, the Christmas Bell, and Believing. This is a great summary of the whole movie with the highlights and for those who don’t want to do the simulator there is another room to just experience the movie. It is easy to get caught up in our beliefs and wish as children was we are immersed in the story once again in great story telling and imagination.
The Winter Wonderland Ice show will be back at Seaworld this holiday season starting November 26, 2010. I plan on bringing my video camera this time.
