Morning Glory Movie Preview Review

Signed onto Facebook – Very early this morning because I could not sleep.  Channel 6 had passes with RSVP codes to go to Universal Cinema and preview an early release of this movie. Morning Glory was on my list of to go see movies because it looked like fun.

It was!

Rachel McAdams as Becky Fuller is a fun, spacey, dedicated, high energy person  working toward her dream. The movie starts very slow but in retrospect it was about building the character making Becky someone real to all of us. We have all been in situations similar. I liked her character a lot and could feel for her and like how she express her frustrations and emotions throughout the movie so I as the movie watcher could tell what was going on in her head.

Becky gets hired as a Producer at a losing morning TV show.

The movie picks up speed as the other characters come into the picture and are developed. Diane Keaton, Colleen Peck, is good at any role she plays. Harrison Ford as Mike Pomeroy a curmudgeon old legendary anchor from days gone by who is unwilling to change for the new. He really is a great character played by a great actor. Mike and Becky continue to go head to head throughout the movie as she tries to get him engaged in the success of the news program TV station. He does everything he can to distance himself from anything that is not PURE News and it is easy to feel Becky’s frustration and admiration for who he was but who she needs him to be now.

The movie gets really funny as Becky gets desperate to save her job and the station from being canceled. She puts the staff in awkward situations and has them engaged to draw in watchers. One of the things that draws viewers in is the onscreen angst and words between Mike and Colleen (Diane Keaton) characters. The theater is out loud laughing for almost the whole last third of the movie. It is a real hoot.

Mike finally gets it just as Becky is on an interview with the Today show because they want her for her young and innovative ideas.

He starts cooking on the show. A special recipe with eggs.

Becky sees this as she is interviewing at the competitive station (yes why was it on their screens there). Anyway it is part of moving the story forward. It is really really great at this moment.

I will leave out some of the other details for the chick flick part to leave some suspense.

This is a great movie for a date night or girls night out or go by yourself. A real feel good movie.
