Halloween Downtown Disney

Halloween is a special time for costumes, trick or treating, dressing up, and enjoying the night of the spirits. Going to Downtown Disney has been a tradition of mine for the pass 4 or 5 years not usually on Halloween.

It was packed.

Very, very packed.

Never before this year have this many people been in downtown Disney.

Normally you trick or treat inside the stores but there were lines of 50 to 100 people per treat station. There were 20 treat stations. Wall to wall people, carriages, strollers, and costumes. There was no room for breathing as you went from station to station. The candy was simple, penny candy with an occasional bite size bar in with the lollipops.

Update 09/22/11 Disney is ending ANOTHER popular event Disney Downtown Halloween for adults and kids – Several years ago they shuttered Comedy Warehouse, a very popular show and event for adults.

Update 10/20/11 Alternative for Trick Treat Fun at Old Town Kissimmee, Florida This is very close by on Rt. 192

The trick or treating is really the fun and not so much the candy. Skipping the formal party at a cost of over $50 where you expect to get full size candy bars but don’t and finding the DJ on the special stage with prizes and dancing for all kids of all ages makes for a nice enjoyable evening. Brooms welcome you when entering from the Bus drop off / pickup area.

There were areas for spooky stories.

Grownups in costumes. Everyone joined in the fun of Halloween where we dress to scare the bad spirits and help the good ones cross over as the folklore states. I saw

Avatar characters, the Incredibles, lots and lots of princesses, pirates, star wars, Big and small Darth Vadars.

The Witch family were friendly with a great Cackle from the eldest Witch. You could hear her throughout Downtown Disney.

The Pumpkin Ladies were visiting from out of town and doing this for the first time. They appeared to thoroughly enjoy the night as I saw them outside the candy place later having wet beverage while watching others.

People were very kind to pose to be included in this story on Halloween at Downtown Disney. We have Pirates, a Lady Bug, Gumby, a Disney Worker as a Pumpkin head and others on stilts.

The sign on the stage for Happy Haunting glowed as the lights came up and daylight went down. Downtown Disney is a place of shops and eating.

This Halloween celebration every year has grown quite a bit because adults like dressing up too. It really isn’t about the candy.

It is  about seeing everyone else dressed up. It is going to the stage with the DJ and watching kids dance. Crazy dance as they do. They don’t care what they look like, they are having fun.

Harry Potter was a costume for several children. There were some from England with their red hair that look, oh, so, much the part.

Michael’s sells glow sticks in a package of eight for a dollar. I brought those along and handed them out. The Harry Potter kids used them as wands. It was fun to watch as they waved them in the air.

Downtown Disney:

Downtown Disney is mostly shops and restaurants. When the Comedy Warehouse was active, I went every weekend and many times during the week when I needed a good laugh. I would drive from two hours away for one evening of fun.

Now there isn’t much for adults except eating at restaurants beyond my budget. This gives those stuck in small hotel rooms somewhere to go and adds some variety to their places to eat. At this time, I only go once a year for Halloween unless there is some other special event.

I miss Comedy Warehouse a lot.

Laughs

Lots of laughs

Safe

Fun evening for adults

Let’s hope they bring it back.
