Famous for Spring Break
People from the north flock to Florida when the winters are cold and snowy. College Students want a break. Families come for the rest and relaxation. Floridians come for the Beach and fun too.
Daytona Beach books and movies including Chocolat about a Chocolatier
Having visited Daytona Beach several times for both business and pleasure on multiple occasions finding something new each time keeps the visits new and fresh with a desire to return.
Drive on Beach
Driving on the beach is a draw for most people but I worry my car would become stuck so watching works for me. The Travel channel did a short video on Daytona Beach.
Entrance to drive on the Beach
Chocolate
A Chocolatier can be found at the famous Chocolate Factory Angell and Phelps founded in 1925 and passed thorough three owner. My tour of the factory and pictures http://www.freelancetourist.com/daytona-beach-florida-chocolate-factory/
Take a tour and a taste of chocolate and coffee. This chocolate factory ships all over.
Reminds me of the famous movie Chocolat, a 2000 romance set in a French Village
The French Market on Beach street for Arts, Crafts, food, pottery, glass, Street Entertainment and more on Saturdays February 26, March 26, and April 23
The Winter Jam where Volkswagen aficionados gathered Feb 26 and 27 mark your calendar for next year. Showing off their rebuilt or modified ‘bugs’ or vans and vintage stock cars were everywhere on the fields surrounding the library and directly across the street from The French Market on Beach Street.
Daytona 500
Daytona 500 starts the Race season. For those who want to see what it is like to be in a race car or behind the wheel there is the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Review of a ride along http://www.freelancetourist.com/richard-petty-ride-along-review/
Bike Week
Bikers converge on Daytona twice a year Biker Beach Bash – Daytona U.S.A 2011 Bike week events March 4 thorough March 13 Concerts runs March 4 to March 8 Concerts
Update
October brings the bikers back Biketoberfest for more fun and Social media keeps them in touch with Twitter and with Facebook
Beach
The Beach stretches for miles with easy access from the boardwalk or from your hotels.
The boardwalk area has rides, pizza, shops, and shopping at Ocean Walk. I usually stop at the pizza place for a couple of slices but skipped on this last trip because there was food at the meeting.
Para-sailing off the Beach
Fun water park for kids right near the pier. Nice chairs to sit and watch the activity. Watch the ocean, the fountains and kids running in them, or volleyball.
Goodbye to Daytona
Canaveral National Seashore
A short ride away is Canaveral National Seashore with pristine beaches and no hotels. Get an annual pass to support the National Parks, view the movie National Parks Our Best Idea by Ken Burns, and go to more National Parks on your drive. Look for my upcoming post on this area.
