Santa Monica is an expensive city with lots of fun things I missed

Love this picture of the Pier. Wish I had gone down there. But needed to find a place to stay. For all the days I spent in California more were spent south of the Airport where I could find hotels for around $50 in safe neighborhoods. Santa Cruz an Interesting stop on the California Coastal Highway

Amazing sights and rugged coast with scenic views take your breath away as you travel the coast. Finding a place to stop flat with a beach to explore was a welcomed rest. Finding free parking was more challenging. Being the middle of July I am amazed how empty the beach was. This was just a short exploratory stop as most hotels were costly in the area even though it was empty.
